AUSTRALIA Day is fast approaching and the Rochester community is invited to join in the celebrations, which include a community breakfast provided by Rochester Lions Club followed by the flag raising ceremony on the RSL lawn with the presentation of community award certificates.

Australia Day ambassador Stan Alves will speak at the flag raising ceremony and present the award certificates.

Australia Day in Rochester is always celebrated with enthusiasm and the yearly turnout shows great community support.

If you know of worthy recipients for community award certificates from your sporting club, school, or group please contact the Rochester Australia Day Celebrations Committee on 5484 1147 or 5484 3741 with details.

These certificates can be for participation, achievement or encouragement in any areas.

In the evening there will be a dinner to recognise local recipients of the Shire of Campapse Australia Day Awards with Sharelle McMahon the guest speaker.

The dinner is at 4Rs and tickets can be purchased from Rochester Mitre 10.

There is also a 2017 Australia Day Photographic Competition. The subject is ‘My Australia’ and there will be sections for all age groups.

Entries must be 13x18cm prints in black and white or colour.

Competition sections are:

■ Junior Primary, Grade 1-3

■ Senior Primary, Grade 4-6

■ Junior Secondary, Year 7- 9

■ Senior Secondary, Year 10-12

■ Open.

Photographs should be mounted on A4 card and have the entrant’s details including age on the back.

Please place your photo in a suitable envelope to protect it.
